With the 2017-18 college basketball season scheduled to begin in November, schools and coaches are already busy recruiting players to join the 2018 class. One player in particular has received national attention in the United States as perhaps the most talented recruit, despite the fact that he's from Canada.
A 6-foot-7, 180-pound small forward, R. J. Barrett helped Canada claim the gold medal in the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup this past summer. Most notably, Barrett had a breakthrough performance in Canada's semifinal win over the United States, scoring 38 points to go along with 13 rebounds and five assists.
In August, Barrett announced he had narrowed his options for next year down to five schools, one of which was the University of Michigan. He's expected to visit the Michigan campus in the fall. The other four universities in contention are Kentucky, Oregon, Arizona, and Duke.
